As part of our series “Inside EMPHATICaL”, we’re introducing the organisations making our vision possible. The consortium brings together 21 partners from 11 European countries, covering the entire value chain for technical, environmental, social, and economic innovation.
Today, we spotlight TNO (the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), an independent Dutch research organisation tackling societal challenges in sustainability, health, safety, and digitalisation, enhancing industry competitiveness and societal wellbeing.
In EMPHATICaL, TNO is both the project coordinator and a technical leader. It oversees quality, ethics, and financial management, while driving exploitation strategies and innovation: engineering cl-HPAD technology for TRL7 applications, collaborating on modelling frameworks, and creating AI-based controllers for robust process operation under variable renewable energy inputs.
Behind TNO’s contribution is a dedicated team including Yvonne van Delft, Olivia Anstis, Marija Saric, Ilona Kaandorp, Jan Wilco Dijkstra and Pejman Shoeibi Omrani, whose expertise in sustainable energy systems, AI, and process design, drives EMPHATICaL’s innovations from lab to large-scale application.
